Street Photography: Chasing Shadows, Capturing Humanity

Street photography is the art of catching the stories of our daily life in a fraction of a second. The topics are as wide as the human experience: Humor, beauty, joy, pain, love, tenderness, the full range of emotions as well as abstract concepts through geometry and texture. In its best form, it is the art of revealing dimensions of the mundane that our habits prevent us from seeing. Through this practice, we end up discovering that our world is infinitely richer than what we are used to experiencing. However, to develop this way of seeing, the photographer must train the mind to pay attention to particular elements while remaining open to the unfolding mysteries of life

The class explores a wide variety of styles of street photography, from which each participant will select a few to practice during the workshop. 

Join Ian and other class members as they walk the streets of Honolulu to practice the art of seeing beyond seeing. Schedule:  On Thursday 7/14, in a Zoom session, we explore and discuss various styles of street photography and help participants select those that appeal to them. On Saturday 7/16, we meet on the street to practice these skills (Location to be determined based on the weather). A moderated zoom critique of the images taken during the workshop is held on Tuesday 7/19, from 7pm to 9pm. (Registered participants receive Zoom link prior to the class.)
