Attention and immersion are central ingredients in ongoing artistic explorations. Many artists, musicians, scientists, athletes, writers, and others attest to the importance of entering the “flow” state in which spontaneous discoveries are made, clarity is enhanced, and a heightened awareness is evident and becomes an important ally in your creative process.
Learn to navigate the essential balance between freedom and discipline, attention and surrender, and mindfulness and spontaneity in your work as an artist. This class introduces participants to the principles and means of the experience of entering the “creative flow” state as defined by numerous psychologists, artists, and other creative individuals.
Knowing the reliable tools and methods for entering the “creative flow” becomes a powerful tool for effective creative expression and for personal, creative growth.
Through a combination of assignments distilled from David’s 40 years of teaching photography, readings, instructive slide shows, and supportive critiques within an atmosphere of creative intensity, participants combine an attention to the creative process with critical thought and careful analysis of visual communication through images. Learn to refine your vision and expand your creative possibilities. A portion of the class content is derived from David’s book, The Widening Stream: the Seven Stages of Creativity.
Open to photographers of all levels and with any type of camera, including cell phones.
Class takes place on Zoom software. Please submit 6-8 jpg images, representative of your work, for the first class. Instructor will send Zoom link and instructions for submitting images through Dropbox or Google Drive prior to the first class.
