TAUGHT ONLINE
Fee: $285
Instructor: David Ulrich
The ideal of creative work in any medium is to cultivate an open mind as well as a capacity for innovation and original expression. In the arts, freedom comes through the discipline of mastering your craft and refining your intent. Visual habits are paradoxical. On the one hand, they contribute to your unique style and an individual way of seeing. Alternatively, they can also become traps and lead to formulaic ways of thinking and tired, repetitive, and rigid forms of expression.
Learn how to cultivate effective visual tools and styles without excessively relying on them. Explore staying open to the unfolding moment either in the field with a camera or with post-processing—and strive to discover a freedom of expression and genuinely innovative ways of working. The instructor offers a range of enjoyable exercises that unlock your creativity and gaining a more fluid freedom of expression.
Class content consists of slide shows, readings, assignments and exercises, discussion, and response/critique of participant’s work. Some class material is drawn from David’s books, The Widening Stream: the Seven Stages of Creativity, The Mindful Photographer: Awake in the World with a Camera, and Zen Camera: Creative Awakening with a Daily Practice in Photography.
Open to photographers of all levels and with any type of camera, including cell phones.
Class takes place on Zoom software. Please submit 6-8 jpg images, representative of your work, for the first class. Instructor will send Zoom link and instructions for submitting images through Dropbox or Google Drive prior to the first class.
