Warren R. Loos

What is interesting to me is what lies behind or underneath our initial impressions, and less interested in the appearance of things. In this current project, I investigate the passing of time by revealing the lived history embedded in the architecture of Honolulu’s inner core through my imagery.

The geometric symmetry and interrelated architectural elements create ordered patterns, shapes, and relationships. The variety of surface materials reflect light differently to reveal and enliven the façades of a city rapidly being transformed by development.

In my photographs, I celebrate this history as it informs the present and serves as a counterpoint to our understanding of the future. For a building can be more than a building and I believe that there is always something behind what we perceive.
