Quiet Quest
This project chronicles a reflective journey through the coastal landscapes of Massachusetts at the close of a day, a year, a season. Each interaction with the natural world presented an opportunity to observe new intricacies, patterns, and symmetries, to broaden and deepen one’s perspective, to rejuvenate, and to find solace from the burden of daily distractions, responsibilities, and routines. Embracing openness and receptivity allowed for the grace of moving forward with greater purpose and ease.
Strolling along the beaches of Provincetown, Marblehead, and Gloucester in late autumn, during dusk, provided a moment to contemplate the particularity of this space where the rocks and sands meet the waters. The darkness was palpable, yet devoid of any sense of melodrama. The moonlight emerging from beyond the dunes and shimmering on the ocean’s surface served as a gentle reminder that darkness can be a companion, offering a chance to rest, release, and rejuvenate. The impending night holds the potential for new beginnings – if one remains present and nurtures a sense of quiet curiosity.
As we find ourselves in the late autumn of 2024, the need to combat stress, seek tranquility, and embrace a gentle light before darkness falls is more pressing than ever. While we may not control the timing of the end of a day, a cycle, or a season, we do have the power to choose how we welcome it.
