Eight weeks, July 11-August 29, Wednesday evenings, 6-9pm
Room 110, Eiben Hall, Chaminade University
Cost: $275
Instructor: David Ulrich
Through six dynamic lessons, learn to use photography to awaken your creativity, cultivate photographic seeing, and create meaningful photographs that are uniquely your own. Investigate the key elements of the photographic language through assignments, slide presentations, exercises in craft, and individual critiques for a wide range of personal and professional applications. The cultivation of an individual style and point of view is emphasized.
ZEN CAMERA is divided into six lessons with numerous tools and exercises to help participants realize the content of each lesson:
Lesson One: Observation
Lesson Two: Awareness
Lesson Three: Identity
Lesson Four: Practice
Lesson Five: Mastery
Lesson Six: Presence.
Both vision and craft are addressed in this class. Camera and software use is explored to help you refine and strengthen your visual expression. You’ll ultimately learn to change the way you interact with technology—transforming it into a way to uncover your innate power of attention and mindfulness, to see creatively, and to live authentically.
Class content is distilled from the instructor’s new book from Ten Speed Press/Random House (February 2018). All participants receive a free hardbound copy of David’s book, Zen Camera: Creative Awakening with a Daily Practice in Photography.
Prerequisite: A basic familiarity with your camera. Open to all levels from novice to professional. All camera types are welcome, including cell phones.
Please bring 6-8 jpeg images of your work on a thumb drive to the first class.
