“In the beginner’s mind there are many possibilities; in the expert’s mind there are few … This is also the real secret of the arts: always be a beginner.”
—Shunryu Suzuki, from Zen Mind, Beginner’s Mind
It is estimated that 1.3 trillion photographs were taken in 2017, 75% of which were made with cell phone cameras. An entire generation has grown up making incessant use of photography as a form of visual communication yet know little about the medium or its expressive possibilities. This class is designed for those who take pictures and want to understand more about photography.
Learn the visual dynamics of photography. Awaken your creativity and generate images that exceed your expectations. Explore the fundamentals of personal expression through photography and discover your unique vision. Investigate the key elements of the visual language through assignments, slide presentations, and individual critiques for a wide range of personal and professional applications. The cultivation of an individual style and point of view is emphasized.
Prerequisite: A basic familiarity with your camera. Open to all levels from novice to professional. All camera types are welcome, including cell phones.
Please load 6-8 selected jpeg images of your work on a thumb drive for the first class.
