What one generation cherishes the next rejects. If you are doing the same kind of portraits you did even five years ago they are now outdated— not only in style but in technology. Everything changes, yet the classic approach never goes out of style.
Class topics include how to create your own unique style, how to handle different lighting conditions, on-location issues, clothing, props, the classic uses of natural light, and the secrets of effective communication with your subject. In this hands-on class, actual shooting takes place on location and in the studio alternated with a series of small lectures on portraits, lighting, and different approaches to the subject. Models and props are available.
Focus will be on pushing the boundaries of what is expected in a portrait and how new technology of high ISO cameras can allow you to capture images that were unheard of even five years ago. The aim of this enjoyable, informative class is to make you a better image maker and help prepare you so you can put together a real portfolio of your work whether for fashion, editorial illustration, or fine art portraiture.
Prerequisite: A knowledge of photography.
Please bring your camera and a memory card—even a cell phone camera.
